Welcome

Welcome to the Critical Policing website!

This platform aims to bring together academics, researchers, policy makers and practitioners who are interested in developing better understanding of contemporary theories relating to policing in post-transitional countries. The remit of this platform is broad, reflecting our desire to include a wide range of specialists interested in current debates about the interpretation of security, law enforcement and public vs private accounts of policing. As a consequence of technological developments and digitalisation, academic interest in policing has shifted in terms of the focus of policing scholarship. This shift has been informed by a crisis in conceptualisation of policing as a result of  increasing Egovernance and ultra-state regulation that encompasses agencies across and beyond the criminal justice system, challenging the epistemic notions of policing not only in the AngloSaxon academic tradition, but also outside of that. Contributors of Critical Policing reflect these developments and provides a forum for scholars, policy-makers and practitioners to exchange and debate contemporary issues.

This platform aims to contribute to an interdisciplinary academic debate constituted under the KÖFOP project of the NUPS, although contributions are welcome from anyone who is interested in theoretical debates. This platform opens communication and facilitate critical reflection and exchange within and between the academic, policy and practice communities who are interested in new approaches in policing theories in particular outside the mainstream policing traditions.
